Some interesting data
14 mile cycle (with a little bit of walking), 5h15 from 8.45 to 14.00 – average 2.7 mph.
This was the first excursion in our 7-night trip to Bridge of Orchy.
We left the cottage on the bikes at around 8.30am and headed north on the A82 for about 30 minutes.
We rode past Loch Tulla. Where the A82 crosses the Water of Tulla we turned right. We then took the Land Rover track.
9.25 – The land Rover track along the Water of Tulla
Following the north side of the Water of Tulla, we headed east. We rode past this ruined house.
9.36 – Ruins of Barravourich
We were now about an hour from the cottage.
We carried on till the footbridge at NN353468. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what we were expecting.
10.11 – The flimsy bridge
It’s not every day that we give up. But we decided not to cross the flimsy bridge for fear of winning a Darwin award.
10.18 – Panoramic view of the flimsy bridge
10.30 – A friendly frog on the path
We turned back.
10.46 – Back on the path
We rode back to the ruins of Barravourich and left the bikes near the bridge at NN339453.
11.00 – A proper bridge
11.07 – Allt na Crannaich
We walked with some difficulty through the waterlogged grass.
11.39 – Wet grass and bramble
We thought of crossing the Allt na Crannaich at NN345457. In the end, we didn’t. It’s crossable, but not worth it on this occasion.
We weren’t going to get that wet on our first adventure.
11.52 – Simon not crossing the Allt na Crannaich
We had lunch just after noon: salami, soft cheese and crab pate sandwiches. We also had chai and Simon had some cake.
Then the sun came out. Everything looked green and peaceful.
12.34 – The sun coming out
From there we walked back to the bikes and rode back to the road.
The weather changed again. This time it started to rain. We had a steady drizzle all the way back.
There was quite a bit of traffic on the road, including large lorries. It took us 40 minutes to get back to the cottage on the road.
I took all the photos with the Panasonic, except for the panoramic, which I took on the iPhone.
